Six Scenarios in Which You Will Need Food Storage

plastic_containersIf you’ve ever thought about people who have emergency food storage, the chances are that you picture paranoid people with emergency bomb shelters and bunkers full of food and supplies. You might think that food storage is for people who think that nuclear war will happen tomorrow, and the end of the world is around the corner. What you probably don’t know, is that storing a couple of days’ worth of food is government-recommended. You also might not have known that it is something that you could need to use tomorrow, and for a lot less dramatic a reason than nuclear war. Still skeptical? Here are six scenarios in which you will need your own food storage.

Earthquake : You might be thinking that you live in an area that doesn’t get strong earthquakes and you might be right. For a lot of places, you never know when an earthquake is going to occur and unlike the weather, they cannot be predicted. It doesn’t even take that strong of an earthquake to cause damage to power or water. If this happens, supplies quickly disappear from shops, so it will be a relief to know that you already have some.

Unemployment : Not every disaster is due to the weather. With the economy the way that it is right now, unemployment or financial hard times can be around the corner for anyone at all. Whether you have saved or not, it can be hard to get by without a source of income. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that you still have food to eat, should this happen to you?

Hurricane :  A hurricane, or even a big storm, can have all kinds of negative effects on a city. Like earthquakes and other common natural disasters, the damages can affect every part of your home, whether little or large. Big disasters like these make it important to have a portable emergency supply as well as what you can take, should you need to leave your home at a moment’s notice.

Power Outage :  Something as simple as a blackout, a drought, no running water, water contamination, or countless other things, can create a need for an emergency supply. If you put some candles in your supply, you will also be prepared in case the lights go out.

Bad Weather :  Those of us who live in the colder parts of the country know how easy it is to get snowed in. One storm can prevent you from leaving the house for hours or even days. If you haven’t been grocery shopping recently, but you have an emergency supply of food, this becomes no big deal!

You Want to Save Money :  Maybe none of the above scenarios will ever happen to you. If this is so, you are extremely lucky. Buying and rotating food storage, using it regularly and replacing it, is always a great way to save money. This makes it worthwhile, even if there is not a disaster around the corner.
