SunRidge Farms: Organic snacks, sustainable facility

Packed in snack bag in the car on my recent trip to Virginia were organic and Non-GMO snacks from SunRidge Farms. SunRidge sent me three samples: Organic Supreme Almonds, Organic Hit the Trail Mix, and Organic Deluxe Trail Mix. While our trail to Virginia was several long highways traversed in a Prius, the snacks still were very welcome. They were also very good.
Instead of stopping at the reststop for candy and sodas on our way down, we filled some bottles with water and grabbed our bags of Sun Ridge Farms healthy snacks. We only needed rest stops for bathroom breaks.
SunRidge’s products contain no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, titanium dioxide, rBST, and are non-GMO. Many, but not all of them, are certified organic also. They’re available both packaged and in bulk and can be found in more than 6,000 natural food and grocery stores.
While SunRidge products are delicious and healthy, there are others like them on the market. One thing makes SunRidge stand out is its Green Commitment.
They recently installed a solar array that produces 785,000 kilowatt-hours annually. It supplies 35-40 percent of the company’s energy needs and will keep about 1.3 million pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year.
Other green practices include:
  • Offering a bike-to-work program that pays employees $5 a day to bike to and from work.
  • Using biodiesel delivery trucks and hybrid cars for its sales team.
  • Providing staff with a 24-hour work and recreation center, onsite yoga classes, recycling education classes and more.
  • Installing full-spectrum lighting in office workspaces, low voltage/low energy lighting in the warehouses, and filtered air system for its staff.
  • Installing low-flow water-saving devices and making use of recycling programs throughout its facilities.
In addition to the products I was sent to sample, Sun Ridge sells confections like fair trade chocolate almonds, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, granolas and cereals, grains, pastas, bean mixes, spices, baking supplies and coffee.
