Steps to Follow to Survive an Economic Collapse -Part 1

What’s the difference between surviving after a disaster like a hurricane and surviving a collapse of the economic system? Plenty.

Economic-Collapse-header

Sure, in a hurricane there is immediate damage – maybe lots of it. People are hurt, and worse. And the government, much to the disappointment of the majority of the public who thinks it will come save them, will be woefully unprepared. But the basic financial infrastructure is still in place, even with some interruptions in the damage zone.

During an economic collapse the house of cards will fall down. Banks and other financial institutions will close their doors. Wall Street will tank. People will lose their jobs and supplies will disappear.

But it will eventually all come grinding to a halt. How do you and your family survive this?

This is such a big issue, and so frighteningly possible in our lifetime, that we are devoting two articles to how to survive when it all grinds to a halt and the economy collapses.

Of everything you do, stocking supplies may be the most important.  Many of these supplies (including food) are also very important barter items. This one is tricky, because, in times of economic collapse, there also may be martial law with random searches and seizures. The government – or whoever is acting as the government – will eventually set up food lines for the populace.

The tricky part is that, unless you live off the grid (which would be best), you need to hide some of your supplies from the eyes of the searchers, and join the food lines, even though you know you have enough food. In other words have the supplies you need, but look like you don’t.

Buy in bulk, and shop the sales. Buy twice as much as you need of each of the six listed below, plus ½ more for barter:

  1. Water filters and water. Also learn how water filtration works, and how to make your own using cloth, activated charcoal, and colloidal silver.

  1. Non-perishable foods. Examples are wheat and rice, salt, honey, powdered milk, peanut butter, and freeze-dried, pre-packaged foods.

  1. Garden supplies and non-GMO seeds. If you have a well-managed garden and fruit trees, you have a golden source of fresh produce.

  1. Solar Power and a source of heat for your home,: If you have the means, buy at libertygen33least two panels for your own use and then buy a panel that you can fold and carry with you You can be a walking, talking battery charger, which is an excellent barter item. Also make sure you have enough of what you need as a heat source for your home (firewood, propane).

  1. Medications. Store medications for all family members as is possible.

  1. Ammunition. Also a gun or more if you don’t own weapons already.

These six items are essential, but only part of the list of supplies you must have if you are going to survive for a year after a financial collapse.
